Nowadays you can do just about everything on the internet. From paying bills to trading stocks to even ordering groceries, you have to be aware of the risks. Without taking the proper precautions, you are only setting yourself of for identity theft. Here are four ways you can go about avoiding identity theft.

1. Beware of buying online

The beauty of the internet is you can quickly shop from store to store while easily price comparing different products. It is up to you to be careful of where you make purchases from online making sure you only buy from trusted sites. If a deal seems too good to be true, it may be because it is.

2. Order your credit report

The easiest way to see whether someone has stolen your identity or not is to order a credit report. You can receive a copy of your report from each of the major credit bureaus for free each year. This ultimately will tell you everything you need to know about your identity.

3. Secure the network

Far too many people work on an internet that is unsecured. Avoiding identity theft can be done simply by securing your network making it virtually impossible for a hacker to gain access to the information and activity you do online.

4. Avoid reusing passwords

One of the worst things you can do, even though it is tempting, is reuse passwords. Everyone wants to use the same password for multiple sites because it is easy to remember. However, this makes it easy for someone to identify the password and gain access to all of your accounts. By mixing them up, you never have to worry about all of your accounts being wiped out.
